Orthodontics is not just for children and teens. In fact, 1 in every 5 patients in orthodontic treatment is an adult. Age is not a barrier to achieving a healthy and beautiful smile.
Adults seek orthodontic treatment for various reasons. Some may have had orthodontic issues in their youth but were unable to address them until now. Others may have undergone treatment as children but require additional care as adults due to relapse or limitations of their initial treatment.
If you’re considering orthodontic treatment, we encourage you to schedule a consultation. We’ll be happy to discuss your options and create a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve your smile goals.
Benefits of Adult Orthodontics
Adults can benefit from orthodontic treatment in many ways. These include:
- Align the teeth to create a more aesthetic and beautiful smile
- Correcting relapse from previous orthodontic treatment caused by insufficient retainer wear.
- Improve the ability to brush and floss, especially for crowded or overlapping lower front teeth
- Create a better or more comfortable bite and ability to chew
- Address missing teeth
- Close spaces between the teeth
- Reduce excessive wear on the teeth due to misaligned bite
- Correcting jaw discrepancies through surgical intervention
If you have any questions about how orthodontic treatment could benefit you, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Appearance of Braces
We understand that many adults are concerned about the appearance of traditional braces. For some cases, we offer Clear Aligners, such as Invisalign®, as a discreet alternative. These clear, removable aligners are custom-made using advanced 3D imaging technology to gradually straighten your teeth. In cases where more significant correction is needed, we also offer clear ceramic brackets as a less noticeable option.
Soreness | Discomfort
Orthodontic treatment is no more uncomfortable for adults than it is for children. Adults undergoing orthodontic treatment report the same level of soreness as children. Most patients experience some soreness for 12-24 hours after an orthodontic adjustment, but this typically subsides within 3 to 5 days. Modern appliances are smaller and more comfortable to wear. On average, treatment time for adults is 18-24 months. We would be happy to discuss your specific treatment plan and timeline in more detail during your consultation.
Cost
The fee for adult orthodontic treatment is determined by the severity of the issue, the complexity of the correction, the appliances required, and the estimated treatment duration.
